Ninjustu today is simply the skills a ninja should acquire in order to be termed as one. It is believed that back in the 15th century individuals started taking ninja training to be qualified in the said fields of sabotage and espionage. This is also the same period that families practicing as samurai’s also took the challenge to engage in covert strategies of war. The primary difference between a ninja and a samurai is that the ninja was born to perform the required duties and were trained from young ages up until they attained the ages of adulthood. Some of the ninja secrets on explosives and poisons can also be tracked back to this time.

Other secrets included their physical training which involved sprinting, long runs, climbing as well as stealth techniques of walking in addition to swimming. For instance the term Hitsuke meant that ninjas were supposed to find a way of distracting guards by using high skills. Tanuli-gakure is another technique that suggested that ninjas employ the skills disguising and camouflaging themselves like on trees. Ukigusa-gakure was another camouflaging technique where they threw weeds on water to hide their movements. Uzura-gakure was aimed at having the ninja counter motion by imitating a stone or rock.
